Suitcase system design

Travellers rarely move with a single object. The journey usually involves a suitcase plus a backpack, often balanced precariously on top of the luggage. This project integrates that reality into the product architecture to reimagine the handle as a load-bearing interface.

Focus area: System design

Unified bag system

Handle for additional bagload

Focus area 1: Unified bag system

Problem: There are too many similar bags in the market these days as shown:

How might we design a cohesive travel bag range that reflects a distinct identity?

Ideations

Ideation 1: This is where I'm exploring…

Ideation 2: Here I'm exploring…

Proposed solution

Functional, with a distinct identity

Signature K form, tactile finishes, and refined details.

Focus area 2: Aditional bag load

Problem: The architectural mismatch creates distinct physical and cognitive penalties for the traveler:

Secondary bags remain unstable and prone to falling

Navigating requires constant attention to balance the load

One hand is always compromised to steady the stack

How might we design a suitcase that treats multi-bag travel as the default, not the exception?

Proposed solution

The mechanism relies on intentional activation to prevent accidental triggers. It allows the user to engage or disengage the hook with a single hand, ensuring seamless operation even while in motion.

It mechanically anchors the secondary bag, effectively merging two objects into one stable unit. The design redefines the handle from a passive grip into the primary tool for managing luggage.
